Madison, WI -- Today, Dane County Judge Valerie Bailey-Rihn ruled that the Wisconsin State Assembly must cover the legal fees in a lawsuit claiming Michael Gableman broke the state’s open records laws in his ongoing review of the November 2020 presidential election.

State Senator Melissa Agard (D-Madison) released the following statement:

melissa-sargent“No one is above the law. Robin Vos and Michael Gableman have been grossly abusing taxpayer money through frivolously investigating the November 2020 presidential election. And now, ordinary Wisconsinites will foot the legal bills for Vos and Gableman’s attempt to shield the public from open records.

“Michael Gableman illegally deleted records during his sham of an investigation because he was finding no evidence of widespread fraud in Wisconsin’s election. A former Wisconsin Supreme Court justice, who had to learn about election law, cost taxpayers $11,000 a month. Gableman’s investigation, approved by Robin Vos, has cost the state over $1 million.

“Wisconsinites have been subjected to Robin Vos’ corruption and abuse of power for nearly ten years, and we are quite literally paying for it.”
