MADISON - Mike Gallagher once again chose party over country Wednesday when he voted to oust House Conference Chair Liz Cheney for her refusal to spread lies about the 2020 election. Gallagher publicly praised Cheney back in February, but is now choosing to side with the liars and election conspiracy theorists in an effort to prove his loyalty to the most extreme wing of his party.

Gallagher has a long history of siding with the extremist wing of his party at the expense of Wisconsinites. Gallagher showed enthusiastic support for Scott Walker’s disastrous agenda, which included defunding public education and stripping rights from workers; vehemently supported the Trump administration’s efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act; and most recently, voted against federal aid and stimulus checks for Wisconsinites.

“Mike Gallagher picked a lane today - planting himself firmly with extremism, election conspiracy theorists, and insurrection instigators. There is no room for facts in this Republican Party - you can either cave to extremism and lies or risk being pushed out,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Rapid Response Director Kayla Anderson. “This vote makes it clear Gallagher is a calculated politician with no moral courage. Every time it’s mattered, he’s chosen partisanship and extremism over the health of our democracy and our state. Wisconsinites deserve leaders who put their constituents’ needs first, not their political careers.”
