WASHINGTON, DC - A series of Democratic victories in key House and Senate races are blunting GOP hopes for a titanic red wave in the midterm elections.

Early vote totals have pointed toward record-breaking turnout for a nonpresidential election year, reaching a 40-year high with more than 40 million votes cast.
