WEDC funds will assist purchase of decommissioned Pulliam Plant property, coal pile relocation.
MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers announced Monday that Brown County will receive a $500,000 grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) to assist in purchasing the former WPS Pulliam Plant property as part of the effort to relocate coal piles away from downtown and expand the economic activity of the Port of Green Bay.
"I am incredibly thankful to Gov. Evers and his team for identifying the much-needed funds to advance the vital project of relocating the coal piles from along the Fox River,” Said Rep. Shelton. “Relocation will free up land for the potential development of riverfront amenities and will likely reduce potential health hazards associated with the piles.
This is a big win for Green Bay and the rest of northeast Wisconsin. It is critical we continue to pursue an economic development strategy that is preserves our natural resources and protects our communicates from environmental health hazards”
The Pulliam Plant property has been identified as a critical parcel for the port expansion project. The port is a designated Foreign Trade Zone and this strategy includes expanding the port activities which will result in increased economic activity and jobs in Green Bay and the northeast region.
The WEDC ISR Program offers grants to Wisconsin communities to redevelop sites that have been idle, abandoned, or underutilized and redevelopment results in the potential to elevate local economies. |

MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers signed Executive Order #102 ordering the flags of the United States and the state of Wisconsin to be flown at half-staff in honor of former Wisconsin Supreme Court Chief Justice Shirley Abrahamson on Tues., Jan. 5, 2021. Chief Justice Abrahamson passed away on Dec. 19, 2020 at the age of 87.
“Chief Justice Abrahamson was a first—the first woman to serve on the Wisconsin Supreme Court and the first woman to serve as chief justice. Yet, her legacy is defined not just by being a first, but her life’s work of ensuring she would not be the last, paving and lighting the way for the many women and others who would come after her,” said Gov. Evers in a statement at the time of her passing. “We are thinking of Chief Justice Abrahamson’s family and friends, and we join the people of Wisconsin in mourning the loss of one of our state’s most extraordinary public servants and honoring her legacy.”
Private memorial services will be held on January 5. Executive Order #102 is in effect from sunrise to sunset on Tues., Jan. 5, 2021, and is available here. |

Bill will provide public health support, economic relief for Wisconsin families and businesses.
MADISON – Monday, Assembly Democrats along with members of the State Senate rolled out comprehensive legislation to continue combating the COVID-19 pandemic and support recovery efforts in Wisconsin. Representative Gordon Hintz (D-Oshkosh) released the following statement:
“The COVID-19 pandemic is the most important issue facing Wisconsin, and there is no time to waste in providing solutions for the people of Wisconsin. We’ve seen how this pandemic has devastated so many families and businesses across Wisconsin. Our proposal aims to ensure Wisconsin’s public health response efforts can continue and provide a bridge for Wisconsinites until there is widespread vaccination in our state.”
“The public is looking to its legislators for leadership during this time. Today’s in-person Assembly floor session is purely ceremonial and unnecessarily risky, and I’m proud that every Assembly Democrat has already been sworn into office safely and virtually, so we do not put our communities at risk. Assembly Democrats are ready to get to work on Day One of the new session, just like we have been for more than eight months, to ensure Wisconsinites have the support and resources they need during this pandemic.”
The legislation introduced today includes:
· Funding to continue Wisconsin’s crucial public health response efforts for the first quarter of 2021;
· Health Care Heroes Act, which provides needed support for frontline healthcare workers;
· Additional funding for rental assistance, food security, and child care programs;
· Changes to certain MA payment calculations; and
· Flexibility for school district pupil enrollment calculation.
Rep. Hintz represents the 54th Assembly District which encompasses the City of Oshkosh. |
