MADISON – Tony Evers’ campaign today released a new ad titled, “Mismanaged”, featuring Governor Scott Walker’s former Department of Corrections Secretary, Ed Wall, blasting his former boss. Wall, who is supporting Evers in the upcoming election, outlines Walker’s refusal to act on the crisis at the juvenile corrections facility, Lincoln Hills, despite repeated pleas for help amid repeated allegations of abuse and inhumane disciplinary actions. Wall also confirms Walker’s internal policy of discouraging written records, as has previously been confirmed by former Walker appointees.
“We put multiple plans in front of Scott Walker’s staff on how to address the issues of Lincoln Hills and they didn’t want to do anything. Scott Walker mismanaged the issues of Lincoln Hills,” Wall said of Walker, who has yet to visit Lincoln Hills during his two terms as Governor. “I’m supporting Tony Evers because we need a Governor who is a true leader – an adult in the room, who unlike Scott Walker, will put Wisconsin before his own political ambitions.” Wall also tells a story in the ad of Walker’s former Chief of Staff telling him, “the governor is having trouble raising campaign money and this story [Lincoln Hills] won’t get off the front page of the paper.” Wall, who became the scapegoat for Walker’s own mismanagement of the crisis at Lincoln Hills, had previously served in law enforcement for over 30 years including 10+ years at the Wisconsin Department of Justice under both Democratic and Republican leadership.
The new ad will be running statewide on digital and social media. Lincoln Hills has been the focus of a federal and criminal investigation for 3+ years for allegations of child abuse. Several lawsuits have been filed against the state, with one U.S. District Judge, James Peterson, finding kids’ constitutional rights were likely being violated. Another lawsuit, resulted in a $19 million payout by the State of Wisconsin for one child was severely brain damaged after she hanged herself in her cell. |
