WAUWATOSA, WI - According to a report last week in the Milwaukee Business Journal, Froedtert Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and the Medical College of Wisconsin all are expected to buy the real estate they’ve been leasing for decades at the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center under option-agreements they negotiated with longtime landlord Milwaukee County.

Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele wants to sell the three leased properties and the nearby land rented by the BloodCenter of Research Institute according to the Business Journal. Abele’s office believes the time is right to sell the leased properties and negotiated purchase-option agreements with the four organizations.

The Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Division and Curative Care are not part of the deal.

The land was the former home of the Milwaukee County General Hospital, which later became Doyne Hospital, and other county health-related services. The County closed it's hospital, which provided emergency services to the entire area and health care to many low income residents, in 1996. The closure resulted in more than 2,500 medical staff and support employees to be let go, some of which were rehired by Froedtert.
