53 percent of Americans polled on Comey's firing disapprove of the President's decision, and 78 percent support an independent commission or special prosecutor to uncover the truth.

MADISON - The last week in politics was full of breaking news, controversial statements, and leaked information as more revelations related to the investigation into Russia's meddling into the 2016 election unraveled from the firing of former FBI Director James Comey. Unlike the rest of the nation, Speaker Paul Ryan was apparently unfazed and unbothered by the news, opting to toe the party line and reject what the majority of Americans are clamoring for: an independent commission and special prosecutor to handle the investigation into Russia's actions.

After the unexpected firing of former FBI Director James Comey, Speaker Paul Ryan took nearly twenty-four hours to respond to the news and once he did speak he outright rejected calls for an independent commission and special prosecutor to handle ongoing investigations into alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russia. Last Friday, Ryan chose his party over his country again, doubling-down on his rejection during a stop in Racine parroting White House talking points on Comey's firing and declaring that the FBI should lead the remainder of the investigation.

A new NBC/WSJ Poll shows the majority of Americans disagree with the Janesville Republican on the topic. 53 percent of Americans who are informed on the details reported on Comey's firing disapprove of the President's decision. And when asked if they prefer Congress or an independent commission or special prosecutor to investigate Russia's involvement, 78 percent support an independent commission or special prosecutor.
