MADISON, WI - July 9, 2025 - Get ready for an afternoon of discovery, creativity, and outdoor fun! Dane County Parks invites you to the Environmental Fun Fair on Sunday, July 13, from 1:00–4:00 p.m. at the Lussier Family Heritage Center. This free, family-friendly event offers something for everyone—whether you're into science, nature, art, or just enjoying the outdoors.

This year, Dane County Parks is teaming up with Dane Arts to blend creativity with nature. Participants can create recycled-material masks with local legend TetraPAKMAN, enjoy live music from Cedric Bae’tche, or help artist Sonya Sankaran bring a new mural to life.

The Fun Fair also showcases the incredible work being done across many Dane County departments, with interactive exhibits and experiences that highlight their unique roles in environmental education, sustainability, and community well-being.

Participating departments include:

• Waste & Renewables – Explore the Trash Lab and learn about smart waste systems.
• Land & Water Resources – Try your hand at arborist skills, explore a rainfall simulator, identify aquatic insects, and design your own native garden.
• Office for Equity and Inclusion – Join inclusive games and storytelling.
• Human Services – Engage in activities centered on health, safety, and family support

“This event reflects the power of collaboration across Dane County,” said Dane County Executive. Melissa Agard. “It brings together departments, artists, educators, and families in one place to inspire a deeper connection to nature, science, and community.”

With over 20 engaging activity stations, you’ll find something for everyone:

• Pressed flower art
• Camping demos and tent practice
• Bird and nature exploration
• Bike maintenance tips
• Renewable energy activities
• Live animals
• Native Gardening Learning Hub + preorder pollinator garden kits
• A refreshing slip-n-slide, and so much more!

“This is what community looks like,” said Lael Pascual. “So many groups have come together to make this event fun, educational, and open to all. It’s also a great way to see the kind of hands-on, nature-based programming we offer year-round at the Lussier Family Heritage Center.”

Free parking is available at the Heritage Center and across the road at the Capital City Trail / Lower Yahara River Trailhead (3102 Lake Farm Road). Bike parking and EV charging stations are also available.
