Tony Evers today delivered his weekly radio address highlighting efforts in his 2025-27 Executive and Capital Budget investments to support the University of Wisconsin (UW) System statewide during the 2025 Year of the Kid.
I’ve always believed that what’s best for our kids is what's best for our state. It’s why I declared 2025 the Year of the Kid and am proposing the most pro-kid budget of any governor of any budget in state history. Our ability to compete and be successful—to have a strong economy and workforce, to retain our homegrown talent, to solve problems in our smallest towns to our largest cities, and to make life better for everyone who calls our state home—depends on our UW System. But, after years of attacks and disinvestment, UW is facing campus closures and program cuts, students are facing tuition increases, and faculty and staff are facing layoffs. And with new efforts from the Trump Administration to cut higher education funding and dismantle the U.S. Department of Education, things for UW could get a whole lot worse. That’s why it’s up to us to invest in our UW System, defend it, and protect its promise for future generations, and my 2025-27 Executive and Capital Budgets will do just that. We must invest in making higher education more affordable and attainable for students across our state, efforts to recruit and attract students and workers to Wisconsin, and help ensure we have the best faculty and staff for the job. It’s why I am proposing the largest two-year increase for our UW System in state history and a transformational investment to repair old buildings and modernize aging infrastructure across our UW System. |
