MADISON, WI – With yet another harmful constitutional amendment on the April ballot and more on the horizon, Nick Ramos, Wisconsin Democracy Campaign Executive Director, issued the following statement:

"While it may be a new year, the Legislature is back with its same old trick – hijacking our democratic process by legislating through constitutional amendments. And with a deluge of proposed constitutional amendments coming down the pipeline, we need to send the Legislature a message: enough is enough.

"By relying on constitutional amendments, rather than doing their jobs and legislating, the power-hungry Legislature is undermining the checks and balances of our system. This is one of the reasons why the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign and 20+ organizations around the state are urging a 'no' vote on the April 1 voter ID constitutional amendment.

It fails to improve voter access, enhance security, or tackle the pressing issues affecting Wisconsin families. Rather, it peddles conspiracy theories and disproportionality disenfranchises Black, brown, low-income, and young voters.

"Wisconsin Democracy Campaign believes in people-powered politics. Such an example would be citizen-led ballot initiatives for Wisconsinites. This reform would empower voters to have a greater say in shaping policies that impact their lives, rather than leaving those decisions in the hands of a few, which is what we're witnessing.

"Enough is enough. Vote no on the April 1 constitutional amendment and reject the constant push of amendments."
