Madison-In a CIvic Media Interview, hosted by Todd Allbaugh, the former state Sen. Dale Schultz (R-Richland Center) endorsed grassroots candidate Jeff Wright to be Superintendent of the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

Schultz, the former Republican majority leader who served 23 years in the state senate, cited Wright’s ability to work across party lines in his endorsement: “Jeff Wright brings people together and he has the experience and a record of accomplishment that will take our public schools to the next level and restore credibility to the Department of Public Instruction.”

Wright is a Stevens Point native and superintendent of the Sauk Prairie School District who has the endorsement of the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators and recently was named “Administrator of the Year” by the Wisconsin Rural Schools Alliance.

Sen. Schultz’s full statement is below:

“In last November’s election, Wisconsin voters divided our choices at the top of the ticket - but we all came together on an issue just as vital to our families and communities: Across Wisconsin, voters stood up for public education by passing an historic number of school referenda. From lived experience, we know that our public schools are the heart of our communities, whether we live in rural, urban or suburban areas. Here, all of us are united knowing that Wisconsin’s public schools are key to our future because they prepare our kids for the challenges they will face.

“In addition to sufficient funding, our schools need smart, passionate and experienced leadership - and real leadership in public education is not partisan: On February 18, we have the opportunity to elect a State Superintendent who understands that unity of purpose requires meeting people where they live and patiently listening without being judgmental.

“Jeff Wright has those qualities.  Over many years, in communities where people agree on little else, I have seen Jeff unite people to advance public education. Jeff Wright brings people together and he has the experience and a record of accomplishment that will take our public schools to the next level and restore credibility to the Department of Public Instruction.  On February 18, let’s seize our opportunity to elect Jeff Wright to help make a brighter future for Wisconsin’s children.”
