wausau-doug-diny-caughtWausau residents joined voting rights advocates to demand a formal federal investigation and an end to the voter suppression attempts following Wausau mayor’s unauthorized removal of the city’s ballot drop box.

MADISON, WI – Wausau voters appeared outside of the Department of Justice Office in the Western District of Wisconsin to request an investigation into Mayor Doug Diny’s unwarranted removal of the only ballot drop box in Wausau. The voter suppression tactics being utilized to limit drop boxes are rooted in the Big Lie and are in opposition to Wisconsin values. For years, voters across Wisconsin safely and securely cast their ballots via drop boxes across the state. No matter where we work or what part of the state we call home, working Wisconsinites should be able to vote easily and safely. Making it harder to vote is out of touch with Wisconsin values.

Access to the ballot is the cornerstone of our democracy, and ensuring that every eligible voter can cast their ballot safely, securely, and conveniently should be a top priority. Mayor Diny’s unilateral decision to remove the legally installed ballot drop box outside of City Hall in Wausau, WI must be investigated to ensure no further conduct occurs which could violate federal voting rights or which could interfere with voters’ ability to fairly and freely cast their ballots in the upcoming presidential election.

Attached to this press release is a copy of the complaint letter from Wausau residents that was submitted to U.S. Attorney Timothy O’Shea’s office in the Western District of Wisconsin.
