Green Bay, WI – Dr. Kristin Lyerly is now formally the Democratic nominee and is set to face Tony Wied in November. Wied, whose dad handed him his business, is running for Congress to fight for people like him: the wealthy and well connected. “Phony Tony Wied isn’t going to drain the swamp in DC, he is the swamp,” Campaign Manager Madeleine Buchholz-Kneeland said. “In fact, Tony Wied lobbied to raise gas prices, hurting working families, pocketing more for himself and his rich friends.” “In Washington, I’ll work to deliver on the issues that are on the top of voters' minds— inflation, the border crisis, and reproductive rights and I certainly won’t be a cheerleader for the partisan food fight,” Dr. Kristin Lyerly said. “The Lyerly Campaign looks forward to a debate between Phony Tony Wied and Dr. Lyerly. We just hope Tony isn’t too scared when his special interest friends aren’t there to help him out,” said Madeleine Buchholz-Kneeland. While Tony Wied struggled through a messy primary, Dr. Kristin Lyerly has garnered high profile endorsements and topped the entire field in fundraising. The 8th District, unlike many GOP-held congressional Seats, was won by President Barack Obama in 2008 and Justice Janet Protasiewicz came within the margin of error just last year in 2023. Wisconsin, a state with a record of split ticket voting, re-elected a Democratic Governor and a Republican Senator in 2022. The state also has newly redrawn state legislature maps, which will likely boost turnout in the November election. About Dr. Kristin Lyerly Dr. Kristin Lyerly is a sixth-generation Wisconsinite, OB/GYN physician, mother of four, and champion for women and families running to be the first woman elected to Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional District. Kristin has practiced as an OB/GYN in Green Bay, Oconto, Marinette and Sheboygan, and regularly travels hundreds of miles to provide a wide range of health care services to rural and underrepresented communities in Minnesota and Arizona. She was the named plaintiff in the case that brought abortion care back to Wisconsin following the restoration of an antiquated 1849 Wisconsin abortion law post- Dobbs. Dr. Lyerly works with medical students at the Medical College of Wisconsin-Green Bay and is an active and award-winning member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), known for her effective leadership and outstanding contributions. Kristin is running for Congress to bring a pro-patient, pro-choice champion of women’s healthcare to DC and to advocate for Wisconsin’s working families. |
