MADISON — Today, the Republican-controlled Joint Committee on Finance (JFC) adjourned its scheduled 13.10 meeting while ignoring a second meeting scheduled by Gov. Evers to release $140 million to address hospital closures and PFAS contamination. This marks the second time in a month Republicans chose to ignore the governor’s call to release funds that have already been approved by the Legislature.

For 307 days, Republicans have refused to release the $125 million allocated to combat PFAS contamination statewide. Additionally, for 69 days, they have withheld the $15 million intended to stabilize healthcare access in Western Wisconsin following recent hospital and clinic closures.

Democratic members of JFC issued the following statement:

latonya-johnson"It's unconscionable that Wisconsin Republicans continue to play politics with the health and safety of our communities. While Wisconsinites face the dire consequences of PFAS contamination and hospital closures, Republican lawmakers choose to evade their responsibility to act. It's time for them to prioritize the well-being of our state over partisan interests.

kelda-roys“Despite Governor Evers' persistent efforts to urge action, Republican lawmakers have provided no meaningful justification for their continued refusal to release these critical funds. This pattern of obstructionism underscores Republicans' unwillingness to govern.

“As the Democratic members of JFC, we remain committed to getting these funds into the communities that need them the most. It is time for Republicans to put politics aside, and prioritize the health and safety of all Wisconsinites.”
