MADISON – Wednesday, Governor Tony Evers (D) vetoed Senate Bill 1014 (SB 1014) and signed Senate Bill 1015 (SB 1015) into law to become 2023 WI Act 97.  Senator Jeff Smith (D–Brunswick) released the following statement in response to the Governor’s action:

jeff-smith“The Governor really came through for the Chippewa Valley with his veto on SB 1014 and his improvements to SB 1015. Without the Governor’s action we would have $15 million unnecessarily tied up and the HSHS closure imminent.

“Now it’s up to the Joint Finance Committee to act swiftly by releasing this funding to Chippewa Valley health care providers. Without immediate action we stand to lose key medical professionals and critical investments needed to serve the 40,000 patients without care on April 21st.”
