MADISON – The Department of Workforce and Development (DWD) recently released employment estimates for the month of February 2023, which showed Wisconsin's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped to a record low of 2.7%. State Senator Melissa Agard (D-Madison), Senate Democratic Leader, released the following statement:

melissa-agard“Wisconsin unemployment rates reached record lows recently, while our state’s labor participation rate trends above the national average. Despite low unemployment rates being a positive indicator for our state’s economy, I know that many businesses are still struggling to fill vacant positions.

“Governor Evers’ budget prioritizes attracting and retaining a talented workforce by investing in initiatives that make people want to live, work, play, and start a family in our great state. From increasing wages and affordable housing options to ensuring strong public schools and a fair tax formula for working and middle-class individuals, the Governor’s budget puts working Wisconsinites first.

“Legislative Democrats know that to address Wisconsin’s labor shortage and fill vacant positions, we must attract and retain new workers, while supporting initiatives that prepare folks to enter and stay in the workforce.”
