WASHINGTON - The Democratic Governors Association is announcing that business executive and Wisconsin community leader Alex Lasry will serve as the organization’s Co-Treasurer for the 2023-2024 election cycle, joining Catherine “Kiki” McLean in that role. Lasry joins the DGA as it comes off of a historic cycle marked by record breaking fundraising and investments.

“I am thrilled to welcome Alex Lasry to the DGA to serve as Co-Treasurer,” said DGA Chair Gov. Phil Murphy. “As a community leader, Alex has established a strong track record fighting for workers and underrepresented communities as well as being a prominent voice in the Wisconsin Democratic Party. I, and the entire DGA, am excited to have a leader with Alex’s wealth of knowledge and experience on the team as we look to build on our record-breaking successes and continue to elect Democratic governors across the country.”

Both of the DGA’s Co-Treasurer roles are unpaid, volunteer positions.

Alex Lasry is the Senior Vice President for the Milwaukee Bucks, former candidate for U.S. Senate, and a Wisconsin community leader.

After the Lasry family bought the Milwaukee Bucks in 2014, Alex joined the executive team and helped lead the team’s transformation into NBA Champions and one of the premier NBA franchises. He helped bring together the public/private partnership to build Fiserv Forum and the Deer District, including leading negotiations for an historic project labor agreement that included provisions to hire women and minorities that are often underrepresented among union workers. Lasry’s plan resulted in 43% of workers on the project consisting of people underemployed or unemployed for the previous five years and 30% of service contracts were awarded to minority and/or disadvantaged businesses. He also ensured 80% of the materials and services for building Fiserv Forum were sourced from Wisconsin and that it was built as one of the most environmentally-friendly arenas in North America. Additionally, Alex led the Bucks social justice and Bucks Vote initiatives as well as their digital marketing efforts.

In 2022, Alex took a leave of absence from the team and became a candidate for United States Senate. He ran a campaign that focused on creating good paying, union jobs and bringing more jobs back to Wisconsin. He finished 2nd in the Democratic Primary.

Alex led the successful bid for Milwaukee to host the 2020 Democratic National Convention. He served as the Chair of the Milwaukee 2020 Bid Committee and served as the Finance Chair for the Democratic Convention’s Host Committee, raising over $40 million for the Convention. As a result of these efforts, Alex was named co-Executive of the Year and Milwaukee Community Leader of the Year.

Alex resides on the East Side of Milwaukee with his wife, Lauren, who is the Chief of Staff at Planned Parenthood Wisconsin, and his daughter, Eleanor. He received his M.B.A from the NYU Leonard N. Stern School of Business and graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania.
