MADISON – Wisconsin Conservation Voters applauds the initiatives Gov. Tony Evers laid out in his 2023-25 budget proposal Wednesday night including initiatives addressing PFAS and lead contamination in drinking water, clean energy solutions to combat the climate crisis, and improving access to the ballot.

Government Affairs Director Jennifer Giegerich has this to say about tonight’s budget proposal:

“Gov. Evers’ budget proposal keeps the health and economic wellbeing of Wisconsinites front and center. His initiatives that embrace clean energy solutions, tackle statewide PFAS contamination, and protect our freedom to vote are what Wisconsin needs to address the climate crisis.”

“Conservation voters across the state have advocated for clean water, clean air, a healthy environment, and a healthy democracy for years. We are proud to have a governor who listens to the voices of Wisconsinites and we look forward to working alongside the Evers Administration to fight for a healthy and economically strong state.”

Prioritizing health and clean water

Yet again, Gov. Evers is fulfilling a commitment to protecting Wisconsinites from toxic drinking water. As part of his budget proposal, the governor is proposing more than $106 million to support municipalities in responding to local PFAS contamination, bolster staff and resources at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), and increase PFAS testing, sampling, and monitoring.

Expanding clean energy jobs

We support Gov. Evers’ proposal to dedicate $10 million to expanding clean energy job training and reemployment opportunities for people joining our clean energy workforce. This will help ensure that Wisconsin is able to meet our climate goals while ensuring that we have a workforce that can provide for their families into the future.

Improving access to the ballot

Gov. Evers continues to show his leadership in his efforts to prioritize our freedom to vote. Every Wisconsinite deserves fair access to the ballot box. Gov. Evers’ proposal to implement automatic voter registration will ensure Wisconsinites can quickly and easily register to vote, and reduce barriers to voting.
