MADISON – Senator Bob Wirch (D-Kenosha) Senator Bob Wirch (D-Kenosha) offered the Democratic weekly radio address today. In his radio message, Sen. Wirch talks about the proposed changes to the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program, cuts to state parks and limits to public input and oversight authority.

"Like many families across Wisconsin, I’m concerned about these changes and the irreversible impact they will have on the future of our state. If we don’t act now to preserve our outdoor heritage, our children and grandchildren won’t have the same great opportunities to enjoy clean air, water, and natural land that we had." - Sen. Bob Wirch

The audio file of this week’s address can be found here.

A written transcript of the address is below:

"Hello, I’m State Senator Bob Wirch with this week’s Democratic Radio Address. As we continue to debate the upcoming state budget, many Wisconsin hunters, anglers, and outdoor enthusiasts have expressed serious concerns about the changes proposed by Governor Walker.

"His budget undermines our state’s longstanding history of land conservation by effectively ending the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program. It removes citizen oversight authority by converting the Natural Resources Board and Conservation Congress to advisory councils and it eliminates public funding for state park system.

"Like many families across Wisconsin, I’m concerned about these changes and the irreversible impact they will have on the future of our state. If we don’t act now to preserve our outdoor heritage, our children and grandchildren won’t have the same great opportunities to enjoy clean air, water, and natural land that we had.

"Rather than catering to out-of-state special interests, eliminating land conservation efforts and limiting public input, we need to protect our state values and preserve Wisconsin’s clean air, land and water. I hope you’ll continue to follow the important budget decisions and make your voice heard as these debates continue. Thank you."
