eric-hovdeMADISON, Wis. — 84 years ago today, the first ever Social Security check was issued. Since then, hundreds of millions of Americans have worked hard to receive the Social Security benefits they earned.

Unfortunately, self-serving politicians like California bank owner Eric Hovde (R–Laguna Beach) continue to attack Social Security, hoping to strip Wisconsinites of their hard-earned benefits.

“California bank owner Eric Hovde has made it clear that he will ‘absolutely’ cut Social Security, putting the program in jeopardy for over a million hard-working Wisconsinites who rely on it. Wisconsin families and seniors will remember that Hovde doesn’t share their values and will reject his self-serving agenda,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin Rapid Response Director Arik Wolk.

Here’s Eric Hovde’s record on wanting to cut Social Security benefits:

  • Hovde said he would “absolutely” support cutting Social Security benefits.
  • Hovde supports raising the retirement age to as high as 72 years.
  • Hovde praised a GOP budget proposal to cut $205 billion from Medicare, and said he wanted to go even further and bigger with his cuts.
