MARINETTE, WI - Wisconsin 8th CD Congressman Reid Ribble announced Thursday that the U.S. Navy will name a Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) the USS Marinette.

Ribble, a Republican who's not seeking re-election, started the drive to name a LCS after Marinette since September, 2011. On Thursday, September 22, 2016, Navy Secretary Ray Mabus will officially name LCS 25 the USS Marinette.

“The naming of the LCS USS Marinette is an honor to a great city and some of the best and most dedicated shipbuilders in the world—the workers at Marinette Marine. I am proud that the city and the workers are getting the recognition they so richly deserve," said State Senator Dave Hansen on hearing the news.

Construction of the littoral combat ships is split between Marinette Marine and an Alabama shipyard.
