MADISON - According to an article published by the Business Journal Governor Walker is the 6th worst Governor in the nation for job creation. The study is based on seasonally adjusted private-sector job totals from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and compares 45 Governors who have held office since 2011. Of those 45 governors only 5 had a worse job creation record than Governor Walker.

“When a publication like the Business Journal says our Governor is 6th worst in creating jobs, folks should listen to them,” said Senator Dave Hansen (D-Green Bay). “Even by his own standards, the Governor is not even half-way to keeping his promise of creating 250,000 jobs in his first term.”

An Associated Press report found that under Governor Walker only 63,000 jobs have been created through his first two years in office—not even half the number of jobs needed to fulfill his promise to create 250,000 jobs.

During that time the state has seen a job growth rate of only 1.07%, barely half the 2% national rate. Had Wisconsin’s growth rate keep up with the national rate nearly 110,000 jobs would have been created and 51,200 more Wisconsin workers would be employed today.

Moreover, Wisconsin ranks 5th worst in the nation for wages. Over the past year wages have declined by over 2% and manufacturing wages fell by more than 4%. In addition, under Governor Walker Wisconsin average weekly wages are second lowest among our neighboring states.

“What is particularly troubling is that it doesn’t have to be this way. Had Governor Walker and the Republicans focused on job creation like they promised more people would be working. Unfortunately, they chose to pursue an extreme and divisive agenda that included trampling on workers’ rights, rigging our elections, attacking our public schools and setting our environmental protections back decades. It is truly a shame.”
