“Hello, I’m Senator Jennifer Shilling with this week’s radio address.

“For more than 40 years, the Supreme Court has said the Constitution protects a woman’s right to make her own decisions about her health and family. And yet time and time again, Republican legislators here in Wisconsin have made it a priority to insert themselves into the exam room.

By pushing highly-politicized legislation that disregards medical science and best practices, they’ve ignored the wellbeing of patients, interrupted the patient-doctor relationship and deprived families in our state of the information needed to make highly personal health care decisions.

This attack on women’s rights has got to stop. And that’s why legislative Democrats have introduced the Respect Women Act.

This legislation is designed to empower women to make their own health care decisions free from harassment, intimidations and false information.

By repealing unnecessary abortion restrictions and ensuring all patients receive honest, medically accurate information, we can give the women of Wisconsin and their health care providers the support they deserve.

It’s time we say enough is enough, put the power back in women’s hands and allow our health care professionals to do the jobs they were trained to do.”

Democratic Party leader provides 5 reasons why Trump's promises to Wisconsin women are hollow.

GREEN BAY, WI - A court order by a Milwaukee judge has placed Bruce Brown, age 65, who was convicted of multiple sexual assaults involving children and adults dating back to the 1970s, in supervised release at a home on the 900 block of Liberty Street in Green Bay on March 4. A number of local residents and Green Bay Police Chief Andrew Smith have been outraged by the placement of a sex offender from outside the community.

State Representative Staush Gruszynski released the following statement on the issue:

"During the 2019-2020 legislative session, I voted to give counties more flexibility around the placement rules for violent sex offenders and add more citizen voices to the County placement board. Green Bay should not be having to use resources to receive and monitor those who have committed violent sex crimes in other counties. I back Chief Smith in his call for a change to Wisconsin sex offender placement laws."

You can count on Trump to push for repeal the Affordable Care Act and put millions of Americans at risk, say Wisconsin Democrats.

MADISON, WI - On Monday, the Supreme Court announced it would hear arguments on the legality of the Affordable Care Act, an issue that has been pushed by Donald Trump’s Department of Justice as they make another attempt to strike down the law. Trump previously tried repealing the ACA in 2017 and since then has done everything in his power to weaken the law.

Upon the news, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler released the following statement: 

"Wisconsinites’ health care will be on the ballot in 2020, and it’s vital that the tens of millions of Americans who rely on the Affordable Care Act -- especially for those with pre-existing conditions -- know if this legislation will still be law heading into the presidential election.

"President Donald Trump has broken his promise to lower health care costs and protect people with pre-existing conditions and his Department of Justice is continuing to lead the charge to repeal this bill and put millions of Americans at risk. What’s more is Trump has stacked the courts with judges who are hostile to the ACA and further jeopardize its existence. Regardless of the outcome, Democrats will continue to pass legislation that lowers health insurance prescription drug costs, while making sure people with pre-existing conditions are protected."

On November 21, 1968, ninety four African American students engaged in demonstration for racial equality on the UW-Oshkosh campus.

MADISON – Throughout the month of February, members of the Legislative Black Caucus hosted events to celebrate Black history Month. Rep. LaKeshia Myers (D-Milwaukee), hosted “A Night with the Oshkosh 94”, a panel discussion with members of the Oshkosh 94, as they recount the events of November 21, 1968.

Dubbed ‘Black Thursday’, on November 21, 1968, ninety four African American students engaged in demonstration for racial equality on campus, resulting in the mass arrest and expulsion of those students. Black Thursday has been deemed one of the first civil rights protests in the state of the Wisconsin.

Representative Gordon Hintz (D-Oshkosh) issued the following statement:

“The events of Black Thursday serve as a reminder that we must be proactive in addressing racial disparities in our education system. I want to recognize and commend the Oshkosh 94 for their tireless activism and efforts to fight inequality in our community.

“I would also like to thank the Legislative Black Caucus for all of their hard work organizing another successful Black History Month with events in the Capitol and around the state.”

MILWAUKEE — Gov. Tony Evers released the following statement regarding Wednesday’s shooting at the Molson Coors campus in Milwaukee:

“I want to say thank you to the folks at Molson Coors and our first responders who acted quickly to contain the situation and get folks and students in the nearby areas to safety. We are still learning more details about what happened at Molson Coors earlier today. What we do know, though, is that more lives were lost in a mass shooting in Wisconsin. Our hearts go out to the families of those whose lives were senselessly taken today, all of the folks and workers at Molson Coors, and the entire Milwaukee community as we grapple with yet another act of gun violence that will have long-lasting consequences for this community and our state.”

Milwaukee area legislators Sen. LaTonya Johnson and Rep. Evan Goyke speak out on the tragic workplace shooting on Wednesday.
