boy-in-docFormer Corrections Secretary Ed Wall Says Scott Walker Badly Mismanaged Lincoln Hills Situation in New Ad Released by the Tony Evers Campaign.

MADISON – Tony Evers’ campaign today released a new ad titled, “Mismanaged”, featuring Governor Scott Walker’s former Department of Corrections Secretary, Ed Wall, blasting his former boss.

Wall, who is supporting Evers in the upcoming election, outlines Walker’s refusal to act on the crisis at the juvenile corrections facility, Lincoln Hills, despite repeated pleas for help amid repeated allegations of abuse and inhumane disciplinary actions. Wall also confirms Walker’s internal policy of discouraging written records, as has previously been confirmed by former Walker appointees.

“We put multiple plans in front of Scott Walker’s staff on how to address the issues of Lincoln Hills and they didn’t want to do anything. Scott Walker mismanaged the issues of Lincoln Hills,” Wall said of Walker, who has yet to visit Lincoln Hills during his two terms as Governor. “I’m supporting Tony Evers because we need a Governor who is a true leader – an adult in the room, who unlike Scott Walker, will put Wisconsin before his own political ambitions.”

Wall also tells a story in the ad of Walker’s former Chief of Staff telling him, “the governor is having trouble raising campaign money and this story [Lincoln Hills] won’t get off the front page of the paper.”

Wall, who became the scapegoat for Walker’s own mismanagement of the crisis at Lincoln Hills, had previously served in law enforcement for over 30 years including 10+ years at the Wisconsin Department of Justice under both Democratic and Republican leadership.

tony_evers“Ed Wall is very courageous to come forward and tell his story about Scott Walker’s horrible mismanagement of Lincoln Hills. The Lincoln Hills debacle shows that Scott Walker is really only looking out for himself and his own political career.” Evers said. “I’ve ran a school, a district, and now a state agency responsible for 860,000 kids and the 100,000 adults who work with them. I’ve been an executive and know how to run large departments. As Governor, I will always put the kids of this state before myself, no matter what.”

The new ad will be running statewide on digital and social media.

Lincoln Hills has been the focus of a federal and criminal investigation for 3+ years for allegations of child abuse. Several lawsuits have been filed against the state, with one U.S. District Judge, James Peterson, finding kids’ constitutional rights were likely being violated. Another lawsuit, resulted in a $19 million payout by the State of Wisconsin for one child was severely brain damaged after she hanged herself in her cell.

WAUWATOSA, WI - According to a report last week in the Milwaukee Business Journal, Froedtert Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and the Medical College of Wisconsin all are expected to buy the real estate they’ve been leasing for decades at the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center under option-agreements they negotiated with longtime landlord Milwaukee County.

Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele wants to sell the three leased properties and the nearby land rented by the BloodCenter of Research Institute according to the Business Journal. Abele’s office believes the time is right to sell the leased properties and negotiated purchase-option agreements with the four organizations.

The Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Division and Curative Care are not part of the deal.

scott-manskeHere are the organizations at the medical complex and the appraised value of the properties they lease, according to Milwaukee County comptroller Scott Manske: BloodCenter $1.06 million; Curative $1.47 million; Medical College $5.15 million; Children’s $9.8 million, and Froedtert $7.0 million.

The land was the former home of the Milwaukee County General Hospital, which later became Doyne Hospital, and other county health-related services. The County closed it's hospital, which provided emergency services to the entire area and health care to many low income residents, in 1996. The closure resulted in more than 2,500 medical staff and support employees to be let go, some of which were rehired by Froedtert.

brad_schimelAppleton Post Crescent reports he allowed at least 26 rape kits to remain untested as Waukesha County district attorney.

MADISON - An investigation from The Post Crescent revealed last week that as Waukesha County district attorney, Attorney General Brad Schimel allowed at least 26 rape kits to remain untested, directly contributing to the rape kit backlog that as Attorney General he has failed to adequately address.

From The Post Crescent’s Keegan Kyle:

rape-1“In one case with an untested kit, a 3-year-old girl's parents worried she was molested at a party. In another, a teen reported falling asleep and waking up to a friend raping her. In a third, a homeless mother reported being raped at a motel near popular shopping centers.”

“From the Waukesha DA office to the Attorney General’s office, Brad Schimel has demonstrated a disturbing pattern of not taking Wisconsinites’ safety seriously,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin chair Martha Laning. “Survivors of sexual violence deserve advocates who take their pain seriously, but Brad Schimel’s neglect and incompetence has deprived them of justice and answers.”
