WISCONSIN - The following is a statement from Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Ben Wikler on the murder of George Floyd:

“George Floyd should still be alive today. That he isn’t—due to a wrenching but, painfully, not surprising act of lethal police violence against a Black American—is a gross injustice and yet another disturbing reminder of the violence Black Americans are forced to endure in their day to day lives.

“George Floyd’s death is not an aberration, historically or currently. In public parks, on our streets, and even in private homes, centuries of white supremacy and institutionalized racism shatter lives every day in communities across the country and across Wisconsin.

“Every American shares the responsibility to build a country where Black lives matter, where George Floyd’s name is not forgotten, and where the possibility of becoming the next George Floyd isn’t an ever-present threat for Black Americans.”
