univ-student-voteFoundation's complaint argues that current use of student voter ID is unconstitutional and asks the Court to enjoin the law.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Priorities USA Foundation is supporting and funding the Andrew Goodman Foundation’s legal challenge to restrictions imposed on using student IDs for voting in Wisconsin. Currently, Wisconsin law requires that a student ID include the issuance date, an expiration date no more than two years from the date of issuance, and a signature. A voter who wishes to use the student ID must also independently prove current enrollment.

The Foundation's complaint argues that these restrictions violate the 26th Amendment by discriminating against young voters. After the restrictions took effect, Wisconsin saw a steep decline in student voter turnout from 2012 to 2016, without advancing the effort to verify identity in the interest of preventing voter fraud.

“There is clear evidence that these restrictions create barriers to the ballot box for students across Wisconsin,” said Patrick McHugh, Executive Director of Priorities USA Foundation. “Our organization remains committed to ensuring that everyone who is eligible to vote has the ability to do so without unnecessary restrictions.”

The suit seeks a declaration that the student voter ID law is unconstitutional and asks the Court to enjoin the law.
