MADISON, WI –  On Wednesday, Senate Republicans voted on a spending plan that eliminates funding for Democratic priorities to invest in schools, roads and communities while further protecting tax giveaways for millionaires.

While Republicans and Evers both want to cut income taxes, Republicans moved quickly to pass their own $340 million-a-year "middle class tax cut" to get ahead of Evers. The Democratic Governor had campaigned on a promise to cut middle-class taxes by 10 percent and planned to include it in the state budget he introduces in two weeks.

Democrats blasted the Republican plan as a stunt.

“Wisconsin’s working families have made it clear they want real solutions for tax relief, not political posturing. Governor Evers is listening to the wishes of Wisconsin residents and proposing a state budget that will include real tax relief for hard-working families. Unfortunately, Senate Republicans opted for an irresponsible spending plan that isn’t paid for, creates a greater deficit, and protects tax giveaways for individuals making more than a million dollars per year.”
