MADISON - Upon news of Scott Walker's latest TV ad, entitled "The Wisconsin Comeback," the Democratic Party of Wisconsin released the following statement:

"After eight years under Governor Walker, Wisconsin's roads are crumbling, our schools are failing, we're last in the nation in entrepreneurship and our health care costs are skyrocketing. In fact, under Scott Walker, Wisconsin did not keep pace with the rest of the nation on jobs creation. Wisconsin deserves to make a real comeback under a new governor." -- TJ Helmstetter, DPW Spokesperson for 2018 gubernatorial election

FACTS ON JOBS:

  • Wisconsin has trailed the national average in private sector job creation for more than seven straight years - every single quarter since Walker’s first state budget.

  • Wisconsin ranks 34th in job growth for the period encompassing Walker's two terms in office.

  • Wisconsin ranks dead last in the nation for start-up businesses, three years in a row.

  • Wisconsin would have an additional 131,000 jobs if the state had kept up with the pace of the nation. That's ten times the 13,000 jobs that Walker says his $4.5 billion Foxconn boondoggle will deliver under its best case scenario.

  • Nearly 2,000 blue-collar veterans are expected to be out of construction jobs because of Walker's decision to eliminate the prevailing wage law.

  • Nearly 14,000 Wisconsin jobs have been outsourced to other countries since Scott Walker took office.

FACTS ON WAGES:

  • The state's median wages, when adjusted for inflation, are lower today than they were when Scott Walker took office.

  • Wisconsin’s minimum wage has been stuck at $7.25/hour since 2009. Walker has refused to raise the minimum wage, even though a $10.10/hour wage would boost economic activity in Wisconsin by $517 million over a three-year period and create 3,800 new jobs.

  • In 2012, Walker repealed a law that “made it easier for victims of wage discrimination to take their cases to court.” Walker called equal pay for women a “bogus issue.”

  • The state’s poverty rate rose to 10.8 percent in 2016 from 9.7 percent in 2015. That measure also found child poverty up in the state to 12 percent in 2016, from 10 percent in 2015

FACTS ON TAXES:

  • Walker's tax cuts have been "Slanted in Favor of those with Highest Incomes"

    • The top 1% received 24% of the tax cuts in 2017, totalling $420 million in that year alone

    • Top 20% account for 60% of tax cuts ($1.0 billion)

  • Foxconn is getting a $4.5 billion giveaway.

  • In 2017, Walker's "Manufacturing and Agricultural Tax Credit" (MAC) gave $22 million to 11 ultra-wealthy individuals who make over $30 million each

    • Over 76% of the MAC benefits go to people with income over $1 million

    • Over 90% of the MAC benefits go to people with income over $300,000

  • Walker's tax giveaways to the wealthy resulted in reduced state revenue to be used on priorities for middle class and working families, like roads and schools.

    • Revenue was reduced by $1.7 billion in 2017

    • In 2016, Wisconsin school district debt has soared to $1.35 billion

    • Since 2011, Walker has cut $1 billion from higher education including $795 million from UW campuses and $203 million from Technical Colleges.

    • Wisconsin has the second worst roads in the nation.
