MADISON – Democrats have expressed serious concerns with the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) as disorganization and secrecy continue to plague the board’s handling of the Foxconn contract. Amid growing calls for additional oversight, agency officials gave conflicting statements regarding the status of the contract.

jennifer-shillingGiven the proposal is the largest state taxpayer giveaway to a foreign corporation in U.S. history, Senate Democratic Leader Jennifer Shilling (D-La Crosse) release the following statement:

“Confusion among the Walker administration and WEDC leaders charged with overseeing a $3 billion corporate giveaway is concerning to say the least. Republican lawmakers voted on this deal without knowing any details in the contract. The public deserves to know the details and WEDC officials should be expected to have the knowledge and confidence to discuss this proposal in the light of day. This level of secrecy is extremely troubling when a $3 billion taxpayer subsidy to a foreign corporation is on the line.”
