MADISON – Today Rep. Dave Considine (D-Baraboo) offered the Democratic Weekly Radio Address on the dairy industry.

dave-considine"We have nearly 10,000 farms with over 1 million cows. Nearly 96 percent of those farms are family owned, and the dairy industry contributes $43.3 billion annually to Wisconsin’s economy. Dairy is what makes Wisconsin, Wisconsin," Rep. Considine said. "I know we can work toward a more stable and productive future for all of Wisconsin agriculture. We’re America’s Dairyland. Let’s keep it that way."

A written transcript of the address is below:

“Hi, I’m Representative Dave Considine with this week’s Democratic radio address.

"Dairy farmers are the backbone of our state’s agriculture. We have nearly 10,000 farms with over 1 million cows. Nearly 96 percent of those farms are family owned, and the dairy industry contributes $43.3 billion annually to Wisconsin’s economy. Dairy is what makes Wisconsin, Wisconsin.

"Right now, Wisconsin dairy farmers need our help. Recent changes have left many farmers with too much milk and no one to sell it to. Gov. Walker has been working with President Trump, who promised to provide solutions. We plan to hold them accountable for keeping those promises.

"We need solutions that keep our dairy farmers active and viable. They deserve the opportunity and prosperity we all work so hard for, and Democrats are ready and willing to work toward a long-term fix. With the help of businesses like Mullins Cheese and the mutual support of dairy farmers and their communities, I know we can work toward a more stable and productive future for all of Wisconsin agriculture.

"We’re America’s Dairyland. Let’s keep it that way."
