RHINELANDER, WI – While most students in northern Wisconsin return to school today after the summer break, many local educators, parents, and administrators are concerned about the recent trend of decreased state support for their local public schools.

“Recently, I’ve heard from many concerned citizens about the state of our public schools,” said State Senate Candidate Bryan Van Stippen. “Our hardworking local families have watched as state support for our local schools has been stripped away and funneled into Milwaukee’s wealthy private schools.”

Van Stippen’s opponent, Senator Tom Tiffany, has repeatedly voted in favor of these cuts while serving on the powerful Joint Finance Committee.

“Thanks to Senator Tiffany’s detrimental votes on the Joint Finance Committee, many of our public schools have been forced to cut course offerings, increase class sizes, and resort to local property tax increases in order to keep their doors open,” continued Van Stippen. “In just a few short years, my daughter will begin her schooling, but I have become very concerned about the quality of education she will be receiving.”

“How long will this treatment last before all of us stand up and say enough is enough?” asked Van Stippen. “We must reverse this harmful trend by fully restoring every penny that has been cut.
