money-behind-politicsBig corporations are taking advantage of Citizens United, giving directly to political parties and legislative campaign committees in Wisconsin.

MADISON - For the first time in 100 years, corporations can give directly to political parties and legislative campaign committees in Wisconsin, and they’re taking full advantage of this. See which ones have given the most so far:

Corporations pour $$ into Wisconsin politics

We were struck a couple of specific corporate gifts.

First, the Potawatomi tribe gave much more this year than in years past:

Tribe contributes more to candidates in seven months than in six years

And second, that out-of-state company that sought to profit from the bill that would have made it easier to privatize our municipal utilities also tossed some money into GOP coffers:

AquaAmerica gave $2K to GOP to privatize water utilities

And if you want to know how much money a candidate for statewide office has raised, just click here:

Campaign 2016 updated for all candidates filing pre-primary election reports

As the election gets closer – and I wish it were over today! – we’ll keep updating you on who’s giving what to whom.

And if you see any of those scuzzy dark-money ads, please let us know by reporting on our Hijack Hotline. We want to know about any political ads for state elections you see that are not paid for by the candidates themselves--radio, television, billboards or mailers. Read more about Hijacking Campaign 2016.

You’re our eyes and ears around the state!

Best,

Matt Rothschild
Executive Director
