RHINELANDER, WI – On Sunday, August 7th, America honors those who sacrificed themselves for their country on Purple Heart Day. The Purple Heart is awarded by the President of the United States to those who have been wounded or killed in military service.

bryan-van-stippen“Today, as a nation, we honor the remarkable sacrifice and dedication of our veterans,” said State Senate Candidate Bryan Van Stippen in a statement. “On this important day, we thank our veterans for their service, including my brother-in-law Staff Sgt. Timothy Donnan of the 115th Explosive Ordnance Disposal flight, who received the Purple Heart for injuries incurred from a roadside bomb while deployed to Afghanistan. Whether having just returned from overseas or being well into their retirement years, together, we must honor our veterans by thanking each and every person who has served to protect the freedoms that make our nation so great.”

“Today also serves as a reminder of the importance of taking care of our veterans when they have returned from service. In recent years, our elected officials have failed to provide sufficient resources for the critical services that our veterans rely upon including an attempt to allow counties to eliminate their County Veterans Service Officers. If elected, I will work hard to make certain that all of our veterans have access to the resources, services, and benefits they have earned,” concluded Van Stippen.
