votersMADISON - I’m urging you to vote in the April 5 elections. There is a very important state supreme court race -- go to our Campaign Profiles 2016 to view candidates' campaign finance summaries -- along with the presidential primaries. So please go to the polls on April 5 or skip the lines and vote this week. Early voting is available at your city clerk’s office all this week and next. Remember: Bring your photo ID along.

And here are two other ways you can help make democracy work during this election.

First,
Because of higher turnout than expected, the City of Milwaukee issued a call for more poll workers.

Qualifications include:

  • Must be qualified to vote
  • Reside in Milwaukee County (not limited to the City of Milwaukee)
  • Proficient reading and writing skills and the ability to quickly process instructions
  • The ability to work well with the public

Election workers receive $130 in compensation for working a full day or $65 for working half day (AM or PM shift), plus $15 for attending training.

If you’re interested, complete an online application at www.milwaukee.gov/election.

And second, the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin is looking for election observers to be their eyes and ears at the polls in cities, villages and towns across the state. They will be monitoring whether new election laws are being uniformly applied statewide. In particular, they will be watching for signs of voters being disenfranchised by election laws or election administration procedures. The League will provide online training and a packet of materials to support your work. Use this link to sign up if you can help the League out with the April 5 primary.

Thanks for doing your part to help make every vote count.
