MADISON - White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest was asked on Fox News about Senate Republicans’ refusal to consider Judge Garland's nomination. Earnest pointed to one Republican senator as the poster child for blind partisan obstructionism: Wisconsin’s own Ron Johnson.

Earnest pointed to Johnson’s own admission that if President Mitt Romney were in office, he and Senate Republicans would actually do their jobs and consider a nominee, saying “it’s pretty clear that it’s not about the person or the principle, it’s about the political party, and I don’t think that’s something the American people think is appropriate.”

BAIER: “You heard Senator McConnell there. He said it’s about principle and not the person.”

EARNEST: “With all due respect to Leader McConnell, Senator Ron Johnson disagreed with him. Senator Ron Johnson just last week actually acknowledged that if it were President Mitt Romney who were in office, Senate Republicans would be treating this nominee a whole lot differently. So it's pretty clear that it's not about the person or the principle, it's about the political party, and I don't think that's something the American people think is appropriate.”
