janis-ringhandMADISON – Senator Janis Ringhand (Evansville) offered the Democratic weekly radio address today. In her radio message, Sen. Ringhand highlighted legislation she introduced with her Democratic colleagues to increase workplace flexibility.

"Only 11% of workers in America have access to paid Family and Medical Leave through their employer. Senate Bill 385 would help workers in every part of Wisconsin do what's best for their families and keep their jobs in the event of a medical emergency." - Sen. Janis Ringhand

A written transcript of the address is below:

"Hi, this is Senator Janis Ringhand from the 15th Senate District and I am offering up this week's radio ad. As the current legislative session winds to close, Senate Democrats remain committed to supporting ideas and policies to increase the economic stability for families throughout the state.

"Take Family and Medical Leave for instance. Senate Democrats have authored a plan, Senate Bill 385 to allow workers to take up to twelve weeks off if they become seriously ill or need to care for a sick family member without facing the threat of losing their job.

"Senate Bill 385 creates a Family Medical Leave Insurance Fund to allow employees to set aside money you can use when you are forced to take time off for a serious illness or to take care of a loved one. Only 11% of workers in America have access to paid Family and Medical Leave through their employer. Senate Bill 385 would help workers in every part of Wisconsin do what's best for their families and keep their jobs in the event of a medical emergency.

"Creating a Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program will save businesses money and provide security for workers. This common sense reform will do the right think for Wisconsin businesses, workers, and families."
