GOP senator from Hazelhurst supported sale of public land to foreigners and out-of-state corporations.

MADISON, WI – An unfolding controversy at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has been tied back to embattled State Senator Tom Tiffany (R-Hazelhurst). It was revealed last week that Sen. Tiffany was a key supporter of a plan to force the sale of thousands of acres of public land including rare trout ponds and pristine natural parkland.

Citizens have expressed outrage that out-of-state corporations and foreigners will be allowed to buy up large tracts of valuable public land in northern Wisconsin as part of Sen. Tiffany’s plan.

“Once again we see Sen. Tiffany selling out our state to benefit the wealthy special interests who want to exploit communities in northern Wisconsin,” said SSDC Executive Director Matt Ullsvik. “It is deeply troubling that Sen. Tiffany would allow out-of-state corporations and foreign companies to come in and buy up some of the most unique and valuable land in Wisconsin.”

This latest controversy follows several weeks of concerning news and polarizing statements by Sen. Tiffany. He has faced mounting criticism over his proposals to eliminate local control and shift more power to Madison bureaucrats.

“Wisconsin families want public servants who will stand up for our state and protect local access to clean air, land and water,” added Ullsvik. “Unfortunately, Sen. Tiffany continues to sell out our state to benefit his wealthy campaign contributors and Madison special interests.”
