americorps-vistaGREEN BAY - Brown County UW-Extension Year-Long VISTA position opening.

VISTA Position Goal:  The goal of the yearlong AmeriCorps VISTA is to integrate financial literacy education (along with local access to nutritious, home grown foods and increase of physical activity) into:

1)      Youth out-of-school time programming opportunities throughout the year, and

2)      Adult organizations who work with diverse, underserved, at-risk and poverty populations

Objectives of the Position:

  1. Assess community offerings and provide educational opportunities that increase financial literacy education related competencies into out-of-school time settings.
  2. Assist with the development of a Statewide Money on the Books program for youth.
  3. Assist with the development and expansion of community gardens for low income populations.
  4. Assist with the development of Poverty Simulations and Financial Literacy Educational Program that spans the lifetime (programs for youth to senior citizens), designed to create and raise awareness of what it's like to live in poverty.

Position timeframe: August 12, 2015-August 11, 2016.  Typical hours are Monday-Friday 8:00-4:30, with occasional evenings and weekends.  Monthly living allowance is $946 (take home approximately $850); member will receive a $4725 educational award for their service.  Student loan deferment, health insurance and other benefits may be available.  VISTA members may have NO other employment during service. Minimum age:  18.  Must have high school diploma.  Preferred age:  21.
